On Father’s Day weekend we attended A&D’s afternoon wedding at Eagle Creek Golf Course just below Burnaby Mountain. They had some really neat ideas so I thought I’d share it with you.
Instead of using a signing scroll or guestbook, guests were given heart shape sticky notes to write wishes and they were then stuck onto a cartoon drawing of the couple. I thought it was a great idea as a wedding memento.

The cartoon drawing done by the bride (I think, couldn’t remember the details).
The room was nicely decorated with purple bows and roses tied to the chair covers, and calla lilies as centre pieces.

They used an interesting way of naming the tables. Aside from using table numbers, they also assigned each table with their favourite TV shows. There was ER, CSI, Simpsons, etc. Our table was the Star Trek table.

We were the Trekies.
Here are some other photos I took of the room before the ceremony and lunch. The food was better than I thought. It was kept hot and replenished at a timely manner. The service was very good as the servers were quick to clean up finished plates.
I thought since it’s a afternoon reception there won’t be any games played on the couple but they did have one big game. It required participation from the guests as well which was really well planned. The game is to guess the song name and singer after the MC plays a short clip of it. If someone can guess it right the couple will have to do an action which usually involved kissing or doing something silly. A couple of actions that I really liked were:
- Putting lipstick on the groom and the couple have to kiss this transparency which have half of the double happiness word printed on it. The two “squares” at the bottom is missing and the couple have to complete the word by making a mark with their lips (in the shape of an “O”).
- Popping a balloon together without using their hands, or feet. It was a tough on as the balloon didn’t seem to want to burst. It took them about 2 – 3 minutes of trying before they finally popped it
I find that the afternoon reception were more relaxing than evening banquets. Maybe because it is shorter so it didn’t seem as rushed. I think afternoon/lunch reception weddings are also cheaper than evening ones. Could be a consideration for those on a tighter budget.
